Black Tie New Mexico is a private social club for gay gentlemen. It is a chapter of Black Tie International which has chapters in over 15 cities, where its members can meet new people who share a common outlook, to have fun, and to enjoy one another's company.
NM Black Tie Club was started by Co-Presidents Bob O’Neal and Paul Bonness in 2003 with the assistance of a 17-member advisory board. The Tri-Cultural Inaugural Dinner was held at the Los Poblanos Historic Inn and was attended by Bob Gregson, International President, 54 New Mexico members and guests, and 36 members from eight other chapters. Highlights of the early years have included dinner at the top of the Tram in 2007, and buses tours to the International Balloon Fiesta which was attended by 165 members and guests from many other chapters; a three day weekend in Santa Fe in May 2013 with guests from half of the international chapters represented.
The 25th International Black Tie Convergence in Albuquerque in August 2015 that was attended by over 260 members (a record attendance number!). That event included a lavish brunch buffet at the ABQ Country Club, a buffet Mexican dinner at Hotel Albuquerque, bus excursion to the Santa Fe Opera, a wine and cheese party at Romero Street Gallery, a formal dinner with entertainment at Hotel Albuquerque, a White Party night with dancing and entertainment, and a farewell buffet party at Church Street Cafe in Old Town.
Dennis Alexander and Bill Cox became co-presidents in 2015 after the twelve-year leadership efforts of Bob and Paul. They began their work following the International Black Tie Convergence. In their leadership role, they worked on better ways to increase Black Tie membership including follow-up visits with prospective members at their home after and informal event attendance. They would provide a recent Black Tie Magazine and personal contacts to encourage enrolling as club members. Dennis and Bill also reviewed possible venues to help with advance scheduling for formal weekend events.
